Andrew Ruhemann is an Academy Award winning filmmaker and the founder of PASSION PICTURES.
Andrew started PASSION PICTURES in 1987 after working as Development Producer on ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ under his mentor Richard Williams, going on to work alongside him as Producer then Executive Producer. Instilled with the values of story, character and craft as paramount, Andrew fused these into the DNA of PASSION and everything the studio produces to this day.
Andrew has moulded PASSION PICTURES into a proudly independent production company with a truly unique offering; a studio that is home to the most skilled artists in the world across animation and documentary. Throughout his career, Andrew has been at the helm of a studio creating the most impactful documentaries and ground-breaking animation bringing iconic characters like Gorillaz, Aleksandr the Meerkat and many more to life. Andrew won the Oscar for Best Animated Short on his directorial debut for ‘The Lost Thing’. The Academy also awarded PASSION Documentaries for ‘Searching for Sugarman’ and ‘One Day in September’, making PASSION the only independent studio worldwide to hold Oscars for Animation and Documentary production. Andrew’s second short film, ‘The Day I Became a Bird’ has played at festivals worldwide and will soon be adapted into a standalone video game.
Andrew deeply understands the importance of nurturing talent and has shaped the PASSION PICTURES’ roster of directors, finding the spark when artists are just beginning their career and helping them grow into filmmakers telling their own stories with voice and vision.
As Creative Director for PASSION PICTURES, Andrew guides the studio’s diverse output and holds the responsibility for maintaining creative excellence throughout. He ensures that PASSION’s commissioned work for brands is as moving and inspiring as its films created for cinema audiences and that stories are told with heart, integrity and, of course, PASSION.
