Application format

To facilitate applications, we have not added any strict limit to the length of answers. As a guide we would be grateful if you could limit each answer to a maximum of 500 words of text or 3 mins of audio or video. The length of your answer is not an eligibility criteria.

For us to keep track of all applications effectively, we would prefer it if you filled in our online form. The formats available for each section of the application are listed below.

However, we understand filling in a form may not be accessible to everybody. Wording the actual answers to the questions is up to you but if you need practical support in filling in the form, we are here to help.

If you require support or would like to submit your expression of interest in a different way please get in touch with Isabelle Croissant at isabelle@manchesteranimationfestival.co.uk

  • Contact details: In writing using the online form.
  • Application questions: Feel free to answer the questions in whatever medium works best for you (audio, writing or video). There is space in the form for you to add a link to your visual, audio or video answers. Feel free to use any service that works for you but please remember these principles:
    • Several people will be listening/watching, so access to your file must not be linked to a specific email address.
    • The people watching/listening need to be able to access it without signing in to a service (for instance, if you use YouTube, please make your video Unlisted, not Private).
    • It must not expire before October 2026. This is especially relevant for services such as WeTransfer.

If you have any question, please refer to the FAQs or email isabelle@manchesteranimationfestival.co.uk

Also available in calendar form.

Stage One: Application

Deadline: Sunday 16 Aug 2026, 23:59

Producers who want to apply to Animation Featured need to complete a short form. This could be answered in writing, audio or video.

All applications will be shortlisted based on whether they fulfil the eligibility criteria, their creative vision, international audience potential and commitment to inclusive storytelling.

All applicants will be informed of the status of their application on Wed 19 Aug at the earliest, Fri 21 Aug at the latest.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer any feedback on applications that are not selected.

Stage Two: Informal interviews (online)

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a conversation with the panel, taking place between Thu 20 and Wed 26 Aug.

We expect these interviews to require a minimal amount of preparation and will send you the questions common to all conversations in advance. You will not be required to produce or send further materials.

A minimum of 6 projects will be selected to take part in the programme.

All applicants will be informed by Fri 28 August.

If you are selected as a participant, we will be in touch with a contractual agreement of your participation (see FAQ for details) and next steps. Due to the short turn-around time before the first residency, we will ask you for prompt responses.
