Oscar Wyndham Lewis

Oscar Wyndham Lewis is an award-winning artist and animator based in Margate, England.

His work is often autobiographical and based on his own experience of mental illness and addiction, which he juxtaposes with the more peaceful memories of his childhood in Brecon, Cardiff and rural Herefordshire.

Specialising in the intricate medium of oil-on-glass, he has built a diverse portfolio of art, animation and motion picture projects.

Oscar began his animation career after graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2016, his final year film, THE WAVES, was screened at film festivals worldwide, won Best Animation at the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival and was shortlisted for a BAFTA Award in 2017.

With New York-based A Closer Look Inc., he served as animation director on SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAPPENED TO JOEY (2022). The animated short film about childhood trauma and healing won multiple awards and was selected for inclusion in the PBS Learning Center, making the film accessible to every school across New York state.

His latest short film SMALL HOURS (2026) is a personal account of his struggles with addiction. It is made up of almost 5000 hand-painted frames, which he worked on over several years.

SMALL HOURS is currently on the International film festival circuit, having amassed almost 50 selections and 6 awards as of October 2026.
