Based on the novel "Métaphysique des tubes" by Amélie Nothomb, this film centres around a toddler born to her Belgian parents in Japan. After over two years in a vegetative state, little Amelie suddenly awakens to the world around her - triggered by a piece of white chocolate. Seizing life and all it has to offer with glee, Amélie's sudden progression makes her believe she is a god. But, sure enough, she is soon brought down to earth — and brought to understand that she is part of a much bigger picture. Amelie uncovers the world around her in this beautiful, mature and oh so human depiction of the transition from infancy to childhood.

Little Amélie or the Character of Rain reminds us to enjoy life in spite of the challenges it presents and to find the joy in being present, hypnotising its audience with its masterful command of imagery, a tender soundtrack and wonderful storytelling. It is simply gorgeous. — Skwigly

Little Amélie or the Character Of Rain was the 2025 Audience Award Winner at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
