Angélica Lares

Producer and Current Head of Taller del Chucho since 2021, an animation studio founded by Guillermo del Toro, where part of his stop motion film Pinocchio was produced. She was the Second Unit Production Supervisor. Executive Producer for Humo (2023), Rita Basulto’s latest short film which premiered at Annecy, was nominated to the Annie Awards and Shortlisted to the Oscars, and won Best Short Film at Arieles Awards. Producer of Dolores (2024), Cecilia Andalón’s first short film that has been selected for Sitges among other international festivals. Producer for Teatro Secreto (2025), that was selected at Annecy’s Graduation Films Section. Producer for Little Nightmares: Broken Promises (2025), premiered at Annecy.

She is currently working on the animated feature film The Origin of Experience, by Pedro Zulu González, which tells the story of the Mexican scientist from the UNAM, who mysteriously disappears, and stars Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna and Salma Hayek.

In 2024, she opened her production company Tomasa Films, which is currently in development and pre-production of several projects including an international co-production with Argentina and Chile.

She was also head of Industry and Market at Guadalajara International Film Festival, one of the most important and relevant festivals in Ibero America. She was the Executive Producer of FICG in LA.

She has been a professor and has participated as a speaker in different forums such as “Mexican animation, the art of creating impossible worlds” and the panel “The future of Animation” both given at Annecy in its 2023 edition where Mexico was the guest country. A panel about “International Coproduction” in the framework of 10º Festival de Cinema Latino-Americano de Sao Paulo, Pixelatl, Chilemonos, SANFIC among others.

She has served as a jury member of festivals such as SANFIC and FICViña in Chile, DOCSMX, CutOut Fest in Mexico City, Selection Committee of BAM (Bogota Audiovisual Market), EFICINE and just recently gave a course on production in animation at EICTV in Cuba, one of the most renowned film schools in LATAM.
