Jess Deacon

Jess Deacon is a Director, Paper Engineer and Stop Motion Animator, based in Margate.

While studying Illustration at The University of Brighton, Jess began experimenting with stop motion animation on an old Quick Action Recorder, quickly capturing her heart and steering her focus more towards the art of moving pictures.

After moving to London she began her career in stop motion animation, being drawn to the medium of paper due to its huge versatility and scope for creating with near limitless possibility.

Inspired by the process and mechanics that encompass both paper engineering and animation, Jess’ work is playful and colourful, often referencing the materials themselves.

Commercial clients include: BBC Sport, Ben & Jerry’s, Google, British Airways, Disney Junior, NBCUniversal, HP, Tesco Mobile, Peperami, Bluey, Costa, Malibu, Coffee Mate, The Entertainer, Elle, Bayer, Wonderbly, Rede Globo and the NHS.

In addition to numerous commercial works, her short film ‘Revolution’ won the PDN Photo Annual Award for Animation as well as being officially selected for several international animation / film festivals including: London International Animation Festival, Fantoche International Animation Festival, Melbourne International Animation Festival, New Zealand International Film Festival and Washington DC Environmental Film Festival.
