Go behind the scenes on the latest Cartoon Saloon feature film Julián, with director Louise Bagnall. Based on the book by Jessica Love this stunning adaptation follows wide eyed Julián on a transformative summer with his Abuela in New York City, learning about his heritage, his community and importantly - himself.

Oscar nominated filmmaker Lousie Bagnall will take use behind the scenes on the film and show us how a much-loved picture book can become a feature length story that expands on the young protagonists journey using Cartoon Saloon's trademark visual richness and empathetic storytelling skill.

Louise Bagnall

Louise Bagnall is a director and animator from Ireland. Bagnall wrote and directed the universally successful short Late Afternoon at Cartoon Saloon which was nominated for Best Animated Short at the Academy Award® in 2019. Bagnall has worked in various roles across her career including as a character designer on The Breadwinner, a storyboard artist on WolfWalkers, and an assistant director on Nora Twomey’s feature film My Father’s Dragon. Julián is Bagnall’s debut feature film and premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2026.
